Seriously delicious comfort food that your family will love and will help keep you regular!
½ cup soft butter
½ cup brown sugar ( may need to add more to taste)
½ cup oatmeal
½ cup natural bran flakes (fluffly ones not the cereal)
½ cup of whole wheat flour
½ tsp salt
Mix it all together, it should be semi crumbly and semi stick together like cookie dough. If too crumbly add an extra tablespoon of butter. I do all this by feel and taste. Set aside.
6 large tasty apples – I scrub them with a little soap and a scrub pad to get all the wax and chemicals off them.
Cut and dice them up into a large bowl.
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ cup of white sugar
Combine and mix in with the apple pieces.
Pour apple pieces into a 9×9 cooking dish. Here is the cool part, take ½ a Caramilk bar and break it over the apples. Then spread the crisp topping over that. Place into the oven at 350 degrees. I cook mine for about an hour or until a fork can go through the apples with no resistance. I have also cooked it in the microwave for less time, it does not crisp the top. Up to you. I serve it with vanilla/honey yogurt or vanilla ice cream.
